DJI, a global leader in civil drones and aerial imaging technology, has recently launched the DJI First Person Viewing (DJI FPV) digital transmission system. It is an advanced digital ecosystem that includes FPV glasses, a FPV aerial transmission unit module, a FPV remote control and a FPV camera. Together, the system delivers crisp, clear HD video, ultra-low end-to-end latency and long-range transmission with strong anti-interference technology integrated in a simplified configuration. This revolutionary transmission technology is the next evolutionary step in the field of drones racing and opens up a world of creative possibilities for drivers.

“As the popularity of drones increases, FPV pilots are looking for the next technology to meet their needs. The new DJI FPV system has been designed using our extensive experience in creating air and ground transmission systems and offers a truly unique technology on the market,” said Ferdinand Wolf, creative director of DJI Europe. “As the only digital video transmission solution on the market that works at the same level as analog, even surpassing it in some respects, we hope to set a new standard for digital FPVs.”

Optimum flight experience

The DJI FPV Air Unit Module uses low-latency HD DJI FPV Transmission technology (DJI HDL FPV Transmission) which integrates a two-way data communication mechanism to provide integrated control over the entire system and a stable, uninterrupted signal connection. DJI HDL FPV offers 28 milliseconds of end-to-end low latency, similar to high-performance analog systems. The FPV has a maximum permissible transmission radius of 4 km (FCC) or 0.7 km (CE) [1], while the anti-interference technology provides reliable power to the glasses during flight. In addition, a “Focus Mode” restricts the bitrate of the signal at the center of the frame, counteracting any interference to provide a clear image even in harsh environments.

The digital signal offers not only low latency but crisp 720p fps footage at 120 fps for an improved overall flying experience, ideal for hectic moments. The FPV system can record on both the DJI FPV Camera connected to the drone and the DJI FPV Goggles using a micro SD card. Runners can capture video content on the FPV camera in 1080p at 60 fps or 720p at 120 fps while the FPV glasses can record 720p at 60 fps which can be immediately played back for quick review.

Fly with your friends! The DJI HDL FPV broadcast system and the DJI FPV Air Unit feature eight 5.8 GHz frequency channels, allowing up to eight drones to fly simultaneously under one system. Each operator has a unique channel, which reduces interference between channels for an optimal driving experience. Drivers have the ability to view the camera of other runners connected through the “Public Mode”.

Integrated control for an extreme running experience

The DJI FPV Air Unit, DJI FPV Camera, DJI FPV Goggles and DJI FPV Remote Controller work efficiently to provide integrated control for the ultimate driving experience. The reactive and customizable FPV remote control uses 4-in-1 closed-loop software that allows users to adjust parameters for the other three components remotely. Users can change settings on the remote control and it will automatically synchronize the entire system, helping to reduce operational errors.

Flight functionality and dynamic shooting

The camera offers three modes: Racing Mode, Standard Mode and LED Mode, to allow users to bypass obstacles in various scenarios. Racing mode is ideal for most racing situations. It offers images with a higher saturation rate to distinguish brightly coloured objects such as obstacles on the course. Standard mode is ideal for capturing content while reducing colour loss and preserving original detail. LED mode allows drivers to easily operate their units in low light conditions by increasing color saturation and reducing image noise to help drivers efficiently track their unit’s position.

In addition to racing, the DJI FPV Camera also offers exceptional shooting capabilities. A 150° ultra-wide-angle lens creates a dramatic and unique perspective, while 1080p or 720p shots can be easily integrated with videos captured from other imaging devices.

DJI continues to develop equipment and accessories for a broader flying experience for drone-racing enthusiasts. It also welcomes the collaboration of all drone-related manufacturers with the goal of working together to create an improved racing ecosystem.
