DJI has recently expanded its enterprise drone lineup with the introduction of the Matrice 4 Series, comprising the Matrice 4E (M4E) and Matrice 4T (M4T).

These drones are designed to cater to professionals in surveying, inspection, public safety, and security sectors, offering advanced imaging capabilities, AI integration, and enhanced operational efficiency.

Design and Build

Both the M4E and M4T feature a compact, integrated design with built-in payloads, streamlining deployment and enhancing portability.

This design approach reduces setup time, allowing for rapid takeoff within 15 seconds, which is crucial for time-sensitive operations.

Camera and Sensor Capabilities

  • Matrice 4E (M4E): Tailored for precision surveying and inspection, the M4E is equipped with a 4/3 CMOS 20MP wide-angle camera featuring a mechanical shutter. This setup facilitates rapid and accurate mapping, with a 0.5-second shooting interval and in-camera distortion correction. Additionally, the M4E supports Smart 3D Capture, enhancing the efficiency of 3D model acquisition for complex structures.
  • Matrice 4T (M4T): Geared towards public safety and inspection tasks, the M4T boasts a comprehensive sensor suite, including a 1/1.3 CMOS 48MP wide camera, a thermal sensor with 640×512 resolution (supporting super-resolution up to 1280×1024), Near Infrared (NIR) Auxiliary Light, and dual zoom cameras (3x and 7x optical zoom). This configuration enables detailed imaging and thermal analysis, essential for operations in low-light environments and critical incident response.

Intelligent Features and AI Integration

A standout feature of the Matrice 4 Series is the integration of AI capabilities. Both models incorporate real-time AI detection, capable of identifying people, vehicles, and boats, with support for custom subject detection models.

Intelligent flight modes such as FlyTo, Point of Interest (POI), Smart Track, and Cruise enhance operational efficiency and accuracy. The inclusion of a laser rangefinder with a measurement range of up to 1800 meters provides real-time distance information, further augmenting mission capabilities.

Operational Performance

The Matrice 4 Series is designed for high-efficiency operations. The M4E’s 5-directional oblique capture improves efficiency by 40% compared to previous models, enabling the completion of mapping operations covering up to 2.8 square kilometers in a single flight.

Both models feature omnidirectional sensing and advanced transmission systems, including O4 video transmission with a 12km range (CE) and 4G enhanced transmission for more stable signals, ensuring reliable performance even in challenging environments.

Conclusion

The DJI Matrice 4E and 4T represent significant advancements in enterprise drone technology, offering specialized features tailored to the needs of professionals in various industries.

With enhanced imaging systems, AI integration, and robust operational capabilities, these drones are poised to set new standards in aerial surveying, inspection, and public safety operations.
