he built-in 5.5-inch screen displays clear, crisp images in every situation. Intuitive controls and pre-installed features, such as SkyTalk and the DJI GO 4 app, make it easy for you to fly right away, with a clear view at all times.

Usually, you’d use a smartphone or tablet connected to the remote control and with the DJI Go app you’d be able to drive these drones, with the flight information displayed on your device’s screen, a live video feed from the camera of the Mavic 2 and the possibility of interacting with the drone via touch controls.

The Smart Controller replaces this configuration and is designed to offer a more robust and professional control experience of the Mavic 2.

It provides a superior performance compared to the remote control of the Mavic 2 supplied with the drone, and the larger and better spaced buttons are easier to press and control.

Ultra-bright screen

The DJI Smart Controller remote control is equipped with a 1080p screen, i.e. 5.5-inch Full HD, which offers an integrated display of ultra-clear video signal, even in direct sunlight. With its 1,000 nits (by comparison, most of today’s smartphones are between 500-700 nits), this screen is about twice as bright as that of ordinary people mobile devices.

System ocuSync 2.0 video transmission in Full HD

Thanks to the OcuSync 2.0 video transmission technology in Full HD, the DJI Smart Controller offers automatic selection between the bands of 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz frequency, reducing the impact of environmental interference on the functionality of the Mavic 2 and the quality of the images transmitted. Reliable in every climate

The robustness of the DJI Smart Controller extends beyond the sturdy exterior. It is designed for extreme environments, capable of operating at temperatures down to -20° C and 40° C. For drone-operators on their way to to the desert or the Arctic, where smartphones and tablets don’t normally function well, it is likely to be a vitally important solution.

Connection

In terms of physical connectivity, the top of the DJI Smart Controller features three ports: one HDMI output, one standard USB port and a microSD card slot. The HDMI port can be connected to a TV set or external monitor to play back the contents stored on the remote control or the live feeds from the Mavic 2 (with resolution up to 4K), while the USB port and the card slots can be used to transfer content to and from other devices.

The card slot is particularly useful because it allows you to quickly transfer photos and videos from the Mavic 2 for editing and sharing via DJI Smart Controller.

A USB-C port at the bottom is used for recharging the battery and supports quick charging with the adapter. The 5,000 mAh battery offers about 2.5 hours of use per charge. This may not seem like much, but considering that the battery life of the Mavic 2 is only about 30 minutes per charge, it’s unlikely that the life span of the Smart Controller becomes a problem.

In addition, in the lower part there are two grids and two screw holes. The latter can be used to connect accessories such as wrist straps or laces.
