DJI Zenmuse L3 is DJI’s first long-range, high-precision aerial LiDAR system, designed for GIS operators, large-scale topographic mapping, critical infrastructure surveys, and professional geospatial missions.
Key Features
-
Integrates a 1535 nm LiDAR module offering a detection range of up to 950 m, even on surfaces with 10% reflectivity.
-
Equipped with dual 100 MP RGB mapping cameras (4/3″ sensor) with a mechanical shutter, ideal for high-resolution, true-color mapping.
-
High accuracy: for example, at 120 m flight altitude, vertical RMSE is around 3 cm, and horizontal accuracy about 4 cm.
-
Daily coverage up to 100 km², enabling efficient and large-scale surveying operations.
-
Multi-return support up to 16 returns, improving vegetation penetration and ground point density.
-
Features an integrated high-precision POS (Positioning and Orientation System) and 3-axis stabilized gimbal for a compact, ready-to-use setup.
-
Compatibility: designed for quick installation via the SkyPort mount on the DJI Matrice 400 (note: not compatible with M300/M350 RTK).
Operational Advantages
-
Maximum efficiency – the extended range and high data acquisition speed enable large-area coverage in less time than conventional systems.
-
High-resolution, true-color imagery – dual 100 MP cameras deliver detailed RGB data, enhancing classification and point cloud interpretation.
-
Survey-grade precision – the combination of LiDAR and POS ensures highly accurate data for topographic, infrastructure, and environmental mapping.
-
Penetration and versatility – the 1535 nm LiDAR module improves vegetation penetration and performance in challenging conditions, ideal for power line inspections and engineering surveys.
-
Integrated workflow – part of the DJI Enterprise ecosystem (mission planning, data acquisition, and processing), simplifying integration into professional workflows.
User Guidance
-
Exclusive mounting on DJI Matrice 400 – ensure proper compatibility and aircraft configuration before installation.
-
For optimal accuracy and performance, plan flight altitudes (e.g., 120–300 m) and lighting/reflectivity conditions carefully.
-
Use compatible software (e.g., DJI Terra) for point cloud processing and GIS/archaeological workflows.
-
Consider environmental conditions – the hardware is designed to operate across a wide thermal and environmental range.
